Non-Rotating Ropes

Details for Non-Rotating Ropes

ASAHI Brand Non-Rotating Wire Ropes minimizes the tendency to spin or rotation under load. These wire ropes boast special design – the outer layer is twisted in the reverse direction of inner layers for counteracting torsional forces generated from multi-layers of strands. To achieve the resistance against the spin and rotation, all wire ropes are composed of at least two layers of strands. In general, more layers a rotation resistant wire rope has, more resistance it will boast.

18x7 Wire Rope

Is a high-quality rotation resistant hoist rope. Good resistance to rotation verified by testing on the in-house torque/turn machine.

The port lifting, small car cranes and mine shaft hoisting steel wire rope use the 18×7 Wire Rope type of multilayer non rotating wire rope. The structure of the wire rope is Valin style. The inner and outer twisting moment of the inner and outer layers makes use of the inner and outer rotation torque to make the wire rope have the characteristics of micro non-rotation, so we can say 18*7. The wire rope is especially suitable for the occasion of single rope lifting. The ordinary point contact and wire contact wire rope is a single layer twisting system, so the force lifting load often revolve and has great influence on the construction work.
The non-rotating wire rope of class 18*7 is divided into two kinds of core and steel core. We often label the 18×7 Wire Rope +FC core and the 18×7 Wire Rope +IWS steel core category. In many cases, we refer to 18×7 Wire Rope +IWS for abbreviated as 19*7. As a steel core rope, 19*7 plays a very good supporting role in the rope strands during the production of wire rope, and in the load stage, it can effectively share the part of the load and withstand the advantages of 19*7 when it is resistant to high temperature and extrusion. The 18*7+FC rope core rope makes the softening and bending properties of the wire rope further strengthened, and the oil storage capacity of the rope core rope is strong, the lubrication effect is good, and the wear and corrosion of the inner steel wire can be slowed down.

Key Specifications/Special Features:

  1. Use the technology of the strands oil.
  2. Excellent anti-rotation performance.
  3. Excellent wear resistance.

Compacted wire rope

refers to a standard rope which has undergone a special process. Rope is either passed through a die or rollers on a special machine to compress the rope. Individual strands can be compacted during the manufacturing process. This process enables either inner strands, outer strands or both to be compacted. A simple/standard compacted rope has a normal inner core but compacted outer strands. Compacting flattens the surface and increases the contact area of all strands.

The strands of standard rope are round but after undergoing the compacting process the wires and strands become flattened. Creating a much smoother rope with a smaller diameter.

A compacted rope has many benefits when compared to a standard rope. This is due to the special compacting process which reduces the voids within the rope. This therefore increases the cross sectional metallic area resulting in a rope with a higher breaking force factor.

Whilst compacting a rope increases its strength it also reduces its diameter.

Because the wires and strands are flatter they have more contact area   with neighbouring wires / strands. Less friction occurs between them.   This is highly beneficial to the wear resistance of the rope. Both internally   and externally and also to ancillary equipment.

Spooling performance of a compacted cable is much improved. Winding   this rope on a drum minimises any abrasive wear taking place between     the layers of rope. Crush resistance is also a great feature of compacted   ropes. Drum winding is also easier.

More Features & Benefits

Bend fatigue resistance is another key benefit to using a compacted rope. Withstanding much more repetitive bending when lifting fluctuating or constant weights. The compacted, flattened strands ensure much less friction/wear to the wires. This occurs when bending over sheaves or in a reeving system which increases the rate of fatigue.

Other benefits include being easier to handle and less harsh to the hands due to their smoothness. They have less constructional stretch and can withstand shock loading. Compacted ropes have a much lower occurrence of wire breakages. This is due to low friction and abrasion between strands. Compacted ropes offer great cost effectiveness thanks to lasting up to twice the life of a standard rope.

Due to the tightly compressed strands these ropes have some corrosion resistant qualities. They are able to resist dirt ingress and minimise the ingress of other harmful substances between the wires. They are easier to clean and inspect too.

Compacted Rope Uses :

Compacted rope can be used for most types of crane ropes and are often recommended due to their excellent properties as discussed above.  We offer the 3×36 compacted rope and the 8×25 compacted rope with many diameters available. They are ideal for heavy lifting applications and special operations requiring high breaking loads and bend fatigue resistance. Traditional rope does not usually offer this resistance.

Typical uses include pillar deck rope, off-shore crane rope, deck crane rope, whip hoist rope, tower cranesmobile cranescontainer cranes , hoist ropes, aesthetic purposes and more.

Rotation resistant wire rope

refers to a series of steel ropes which minimizes the tendency to spin or rotation under load.

For example, 2-layer ropes is much easier to spin and rotate than 3-layer ones. Meanwhile, if one end of free rotation is allowed, 2-layer rope can only develop 55% to 75% of its breaking strength comparing with 95% to 100% of 3-layer ropes.

According to characteristics of rotation resistant wire ropes, three categories are supplied by our company to suit your different needs:

Spin resistant 2 layers & 8 to 10 outer strands

Rotation resistant 2 layers & 11 to 13 outer strands

Non-rotating 3 layers & 14 or more outer strands

Normally, 2-layer spin and rotation resistant wire ropes can meet your needs of low and medium rotation resistance.

The 3-layer rope with more outer strands is capable to distribute more radial pressure onto inner layers and ideal for larger mobile such as all tower cranes.

Application:

  1. Serving as single part lines.
  2. Whip hoist ropes.
  3. Deck crane ropes.
  4. Off shore crane ropes.
  5. Pillar crane ropes, etc.

Detail:

  1. Surface: bright or galvanized finish.
  2. Lay style: regular or lang lay as your requirements.
  3. Available with plastic impregnated.
  4. Outer strands: 5 to 20 strands.

Note:

  1. Wire ropes with 8 to 10 strands & 2-layer constructions without reversely twisted inner strands have very similar appearance to rotation resistant wire ropes, but they are not.
  2. Rotation resistant wire ropes are considered to be less stable needing to be handled and installed with great care. They must be taken to avoid high loads with small diameter sheaves.
  3. To avoid lay disturbances of the outer strands, it is recommended to ensure ends of the rope are seizes tightly, welded or brazed.
